Mandatory Fees

“Mandatory fees” means fees charged to students for a specific purpose, activity, or service. Mandatory fees can be university-wide or differentiated by campus location, delivery method, enrollment level, or other board-approved criteria. The board must approve all mandatory fees.

Beginning in the academic year of 2024-2025, all undergraduate mandatory fees will be combined into a single comprehensive fee known as the Student Engagement Fee. However, the Arizona Financial Aid Trust (AFAT) mandatory fee was legislatively enacted and cannot be combined with any other fees for undergraduate or graduate students.

The board has also approved the inclusion of mandatory fees for graduate and professional students into graduate tuition as part of their efforts to simplify the process.
