“Mandatory fees” means fees charged to students for a specific purpose, activity, or service. Mandatory fees can be university-wide or differentiated by campus location, delivery method, enrollment level, or other board-approved criteria. The board must approve all mandatory fees.
Beginning with the Fall 2024 semester, the fee structure will be as follows:
Mandatory Fees are assessed to all students in addition to tuition, as approved by the Arizona Board of Regents. See a complete description of each fee below.
Arizona Financial Aid Trust (AFAT) Fee
The AFAT fee was legislatively enacted and cannot be combined with any other fees for undergraduate or graduate students. This fee is charged to undergraduate and graduate students. This is the only fee charged to graduate students. The maximum amount charged for this fee is $61.
Student Engagement Fee
The Student Engagement Fee is broadly designed to support the following areas:
- Athletics
- Student Health & Recreation Services
- Information Technology & Library
- Recreation Center Bond Retirement
- Recreation Center Programs
- Student Media
- Student Services
- Sustainability
- Wildcat Events Board
The maximum amount charged for this fee is $808 per semester.
Submitting a Mandatory Fee Proposal
To request a change to a Mandatory Fee (MF), please complete the Academic Fee Request Form #11 and attach all required supporting documents.
- New MF proposals or changes exceeding the ABOR-approved growth rates must be submitted for consideration by December 1, 2025.
- Modifications to existing MFs that remain within the approved growth rate must be submitted by July 1, 2025.
