ACADEMIC PROGRAM DEADLINES
Proposals for new programs and for substantial changes to existing curricula require approval by faculty governance councils, which meet only during the academic year. The dates below are suggested guidelines intended to maximize the likelihood of approval within a given academic year; however, submission by these dates does not guarantee approval by a specific time. Request types not listed here are accepted on a rolling basis.
Requests Requiring ABOR Approval
Undergraduate or Graduate
As of September 2024, the ABOR Executive Chair will review new minor and substantial change proposals and may escalate to full board review and approval.
New Majors
- Preliminary Proposals submission window January - July 1
- September 15 - Full proposal (February ABOR Meeting/ Fall Launch)
- Preliminary Proposals submission window July - October 1
- January 15 - Full proposal (June ABOR Meeting / Spring Launch)
New Minors (accepted on rolling basis)
- September 15 - Priority deadline for Fall launch
- January 15 - Priority deadline for Spring launch
Substantial Changes/Emphasis Requests (Fall launch only)
- December 1 (recommended draft submission by November 1st)
Disestablishments
- February 1
Academic Orgs (Request for new organization, transfer of ownership, unit name change)
- December 1 (recommended draft submission by November 1st)
Certificates, AMPs, Dual Degrees, Minors with the same name as a major, Cip Code change
- December 1 - Priority consideration
- February 1 - Final deadline

Standard Curriculum Modifications
Fall 2025 (Updates for 2026-27 catalog)
Undergraduate - Curriculum Update Module
- July 1- Curriculum Update Module opens.
- October 31 - Deadline for departments to submit Curriculum Updates.
- November - January - Curricular Affairs reviews updates for clarity and policy compliance, approves or denies requests.
- January - April - UITS Business Analysts build updated advips and request department review; departments review and approve edited advips.
- May - Fall catalog goes live
Graduate
- September 1 - Non-Substantial Change opens for submissions.
- October 31 - Deadline for departments to submit non-substantial changes form.
- November - January - Graduate College & Curricular Affairs reviews requests for clarity and policy compliance, approves or denies requests.
- February - April - ACP makes updates to catalog descriptions and requirements.
- May - catalog goes live
