Academic Fee Proposals Timeline

June 1, 2025

The University follows a structured, two-cycle timeline each year to review and approve tuition and fee changes.

-The Fall Cycle covers routine adjustments within approved growth rates and concludes by December.

-The Spring Cycle is reserved for new fees or increases above growth rate limits, with final decisions made in April.

All proposals are carefully reviewed by the University Fees Committee, approved by university leadership, and submitted to the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) for final approval and publication. For date details, click the link below.

Important - Academic Fees Proposal Changes

Oct. 11, 2023

The University of Arizona will transition to a UGRD College Fee model in the 2024-2025 academic year. This model simplifies the undergraduate tuition and fee structure, eliminating the current 7 differential tuitions, nearly 30 undergraduate program fees, and 420 undergraduate course fees (except the Honors College program fee).

This proposal and other academic fee proposals will be reviewed on the Nov 2 UGO committee and Nov 15-17 Board meetings*.

*Beginning with FY25, ABOR meets in November of each year to approve tuition and academic fees for the next academic year for those fees that are new or exceed the allotted growth rate.

Departments can Waive/Refund Course Fees for Canceled Activities

Aug. 1, 2022

If due to the pandemic there are in-person activities canceled, funded by course fees (e.g., field trips, other travel, special exams, lab supplies, and other consumables), we will work to waive these course fees before they are billed to the student or refund the student if they have paid the fee. To manage this process, we would like to work with you on these requests as follows:

Prepare a college-wide/department-wide memo request, listing all the course fees to be waived/refunded, indicate why the course fee needs to be waived/refunded, and provide the fee amount and account number.

Ensure the memo is signed by the Department Head or the College Dean (or a dean's designee).
Address the memo to Vice Provost Greg Heileman.
Email the memo to the University Fees Program Manager (click "email us" below)
The request to waive/refund a course fee for the Fall 2022 or Spring 2023 semesters is final and cannot be changed later in the term.

Preferably, submit this request by no later than October 1, 2022. This is the ideal date for full academic year (AY) requests but waive/refund requests per term can be submitted throughout the AY.
