New majors require on-campus and Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) approval. While we accept new academic major proposals on a rolling basis, departments wishing to launch a degree program by fall are encouraged to submit required proposal paperwork through the UAccess UA Plan Management workflow by October. Visit the Undergraduate Proposal Approval Table and Graduate Proposal Approval Table for information about required forms and the approval process.
New program proposals can take some time to make it through all of the required faculty governance councils and we cannot guarantee approval timelines. Academic units have two years from the time of ABOR approval to complete UA approval processes to implement the program.
UA governing committees and ABOR must approve all new or modified academic programs before the program or unit may be announced.
New Program Requiring a Program Fee
Units that would like to establish a new academic major with a program fee also need to complete and submit the ABOR Request to Establish a New Academic Program Requiring a Program Fee Form. This additional form is to be submitted along with required proposal paperwork.
New academic minors require the same on-campus approval workflow and documentation as new majors, but they do not require ABOR approval. Visit the Undergraduate Proposal Approval Table and Graduate Proposal Approval Table for information about required forms and approval process.
